What are Safe Havens?
Safe havens also called overdose prevention centers are facilities where people are allow to consume pre-obtained drugs under the supervision of trained staff. The staff is prepared to answer question on safe injection practices, they also monitor and provide help in case of an overdose incident. There are 10 countries which are (Australia, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain and Switzerland) that are running already 120 safe havens. ​

They reduce overdose deaths.

They decrease infectious disease transmission (primarily HIV and hepatitis C).

They increase the number of individuals initiating treatment for substance use disorders.

They don’t increase drug trafficking or crime in the areas where facilities are located.
